I was 21 years old and entering my final year of studies at Leeds University when my fitness and yoga journey began. Having spent a year studying in Italy and enjoying the delicious Italian cuisine (in large portions), I arrived in the UK to find none of my clothing fitted. I had gone up 3 dress sizes without even realising it! There and then I decided to sign on to the University gym and get back to my pre pasta, pizza (and prosecco) shape.
I started with the aim of losing weight, oblivious to the fact that this decision would change the course of my life. I cleaned up my diet, began training, practising yoga and swapped my bus pass for trainers. Within 6 months I had lost the extra pounds, yet had gained something else, a zest for life I hadn’t experienced before. I was happier, more energetic, driven. My university studies became more enjoyable, I dealt with stress much better, I felt like I had woken from a foggy dream and was finally living life. I had no idea that exercise and a clean diet could have such an amazing impact on how I experience life.
After experiencing such dramatic changes I decided to give up my career in languages for a life dedicated to health and fitness, studying to be a Personal Trainer, Yoga Teacher and Thai Yoga Massage Therapist. So far, this journey has taken me to Mexico, Peru, Cambridge and now Fuengirola, Spain. I’ve never looked back and the more I learn and evolve, the more grateful I am for walking this path. Over the last 13 years studying the means to attain and maintain a healthy body and mind has been my passion, my pastime and my career.
There is always something new to learn about what our bodies are capable of. Exercise has become playtime for me, time in my day when I feel completely free. I have learnt to reconnect with my childlike curiosity, the desire to try new movements, new yoga poses and challenge myself constantly. I invite you to do the same, to improve your quality of life and truly enjoy the process.
